A masterpiece of French sculpture

Prominent figure of the 18th century, mistress and then loyal friend to King Louis XV, the Marquise de Pompadour commissioned a spectacular artwork from French sculptor Jacques Saly in 1752. Exceptional by its delicateness of composition and virtuosity of marblework, Cupid Testing One of His Arrows is considered a treasure of French sculpture as well as the artist's masterpiece.

With the rediscovery of this splendid work of art, kept in private hands for over two centuries and listed as a National Treasure, comes a unique opportunity to show the general public the Marquise de Pompadour's incomparably stunning collection of sculptures made complete. Its acquisition would welcome a major work of French art into the national collections and give a rightful place to a brilliant artist considered on a par with the greatest of his time.
