Life in the ISS
Would you like to go higher ?
The international Space Station is an international project which was born in 1984 with American president Ronald Reagan. But, the construction started in 1998. Sixteen nations : the USA, 11 European states, Canada, Brazil, Japan and Russia participed in this project.
The I.S.S cost about 100 billion dollars. It has been inhabited by 6 astronauts since November 2009 , most of them stay there about 5 months .
Daily routine is not very easy in the ISS. The astronauts have to live with no gravity and they float in the station.
The astronauts have a strict timetable: they wake up at 6 o’clock and they do an inspection in the station to check if everything is ok.
Then , they have a meeting to organize the working day and they start working at 8:10 a.m.
The astronauts have two periods of time for physical exercises : one in the morning and one in the afternoon .
An ordinary working day finishes at 7:30 p.m. The astronauts have dinner and they go to bed at 9:30 p.m.
The astronauts work about 10 hours a day during the week and 5 hours on Saturday.
Their free time is dedicated to relaxing activities.
