Christmas in London

There's nothing more festive as London at Christmas time.

Discover ideas for fun family outings throughout the Christmas period as well as things to do on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in the British  capital.

Thinking of a day at Winter Wonderland? Or an evening of Christmas carols? Or even taking a spin around one of London's best ice skating rinks.

Looking for gift inspiration? A last-minute bauble? Look no further than London's Christmas markets and fairs. Among a hamper full of special festive events you'll find foodie gifts, hand-crafted pressies and usually a bit of glühwein to help you get into that merry spirit. Pick your local area or venture across town with our guide to all the best annual Christmas markets in London.

Christmas Market at Tate Modern

Pretty wooden chalets will fill the space between the Tate Modern and the Thames for a third year in 2016 for this traditional Christmas market. Browse handmade wooden toys, accessories, intricate decorations and plenty more, then tuck into festive food and warming cups of glühwein. A Victorian carousel and festive music help add to the Christmas spirit.

Oxford Street Christmas Lights

The Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on will see 1778 snowball-like decorations (and  750,000 LED lightbulbs) lit up once again for what is the fifty-seventh year the road has been decorated for the festive period. Plus, this year the lights have a charity partner: the NSPCC. To celebrate the launch of its Little Stars campaign, the charity asks Londoners to donate £5 to dedicate one of the star-shaped lights to a loved one.

Victoria And Albert's Christmas Carol

The V&A is hosting a free festive knees up that celebrates its benefactors, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Queen Vic's habit of talking to herself transports her back to an early Christmas with her husband, with dancing, carols, and seasonal stories. This promenade show is written and directed by Dominic Gerrard.

Broadgate Ice Rink

After nearly 30 years of popping up in the middle of Broadgate Circle, Broadgate ice rink moved to Exchange Square in 2014 and has made itself a firm favourite. The outdoor rink offers group bookings, skating aids and lessons, and there will be a schedule of special events announced in due course.

 Christmas family shows

Make Christmas more magical with a trip to one of London's many family-friendly Christmas shows.
